ACCEPT LIFE THE WAY IT IS.
    DON'T BE AFRAID OF LOSING.

On this planet, we don't always get exactly what we want. (Life isn't "just a bunch a cherries" -- it's "just a bunch of tradeoffs.")

So what we need to aim for is the highest approximation of our heart's desire that we can achieve. But we need to be able to accept that life will still be okay if we don't get it.

Setting up contingency plans (backup dreams) that are almost as good as the basic plan is a good way to achieve this.

For instance, once when the job market was not too great, I had applied for a job with a major aircraft company in L.A. To offset any fears I might have about not getting the job, I made plans to visit friends in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, and Massachusetts and look for work in each of those places while I was on unemployment.

Good backup plan --there was more than a little twinge of disappointment when the job did come through.

BUT...Remember the old adage: Be careful what you ask for; you just might get it.
